This blog is about me and my misadventures to get lost in the beautiful city that we live in… as well as some of my random mumblings
Being a bit of a shopaholic is not something that is new to ladies that I know. Given any opportunity, we will name countless excuses to go and buy things that we might not necessarily need…but we want, oh yes we want!
One of my friends in fact, has a bit of a shoe-fetish, and will post pictures of her ‘hot new shoes’ on facebook, so the other girls can ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ over them, and in turn encourage more shopping.
Last night, my mam and I got to experience the best of this world, when we were invited to the launch of the Woolworths Winter 2012 Fashion Preview at Sandton City…doll. Greeted by champagne and the allure of new clothes on the racks, we were doing plenty of ‘oohing and aahing’ ourselves. Not to mention, the catering done by Word of Mouth was exquisite. We did get some dodgy looks though, when we kept saying ‘yes’ to the tiny canapés, somewhat au-fait with the sizes of the models’ waists, and the VIP’s were waving them off. I suppose that whilst we might like to think ourselves as quite fashion forward, we haven’t quite cottoned on to the ‘less-is-more’ eating fashion of the stylistas. We did however give ourselves the excuse that because we didn’t have to spend anything on dinner we could afford to spend more on clothes… which is exactly what we did.
After watching the models strut their stuff on the ramp set up in the middle of one of our favourite SA stores, we felt inspired by the trends. Jewel colours are the palette of the season, as are rusty warm tones and pops of bright colour. Was it Trinny and Susannah who said that one shouldn’t wear all black with a bright item? Well that is certainly not true for this Winters runway; it was all the rage last night. As was mixing clashing colours; orange and red…who would have thought?
After the awesome show, we hit the floor to try to find our perfect winter outfit. Styles this season are definitely remakes on history’s best, as the likes of the 1960’s mini – along with the mustard-yellows, turquoise, blues and purples of the era – and paisley are in. Off-cut jerseys and pencil skirts are must haves too. All of which are complimented by my all-time-favourite Winter fashion item: boots! Boots and tights! Boots, tights and over-the-knee socks! *Sigh, it’s easy to get carried away with all the incredible colours and textures to choose from…ooh leggings!
